Waves
When I sailed across the Atlantic it took us 12 days from the Caribbean to the Azores. I’m often asked if I didn’t find it boring? Far from it! Life became an easy rhythm of being on watch, cooking, eating and sleeping.
When at sea or by the sea I can spend hours watching the horizon and the waves, the way the light changes and with it so does the sea. You realise how insignificant we are in the grand scheme of things, how tiny we are on that vast ocean under a huge sky. It makes me feel alive.
This series of encaustic paintings are a study of waves in motion. The currents push and pull. The wind catches the tips and spray flies off.
I find that by using layers of encaustic the light bounces and gives a luminous quality to the water I’ve painted. For more information on encaustic please read more about my process on my About page
